If you're a fan of the social deduction game genre with a touch of chaotic hide-and-seek action, then Hide & Seek: Prop Hunting Game is definitely worth a look. Developed by Barracuda Games - Good Shooting and Action Games, this game is a pure mobile experience, optimized specifically for Android and iOS devices. It's available for download on the Google Play Store and the App Store, and I was surprised to see it already has over 10 million installs on Google Play alone, which tells you how popular the prop hunt concept is on mobile. The game is free to download and play, which is great, but it does feature in-app purchases ranging from about $1 to $10. You'll also encounter in-app ads, which can be a bit annoying between rounds, but you can remove them with a small purchase. There's no console or PC version on Steam or Xbox, so this is strictly a mobile game, and it first launched a few years ago to fill that "play with friends" niche on the go.
Playing Hide & Seek: Prop Hunting Game is straightforward and surprisingly addictive. The core loop has one team of players as "Hunters" and the other as "Props." If you're a Prop, you get to disguise yourself as any object in the environment—think chairs, barrels, bushes, or even traffic cones—and your goal is to blend in and survive the round. As a Hunter, you have to shoot every suspicious object to expose the fake players. The best part? The sheer chaos when you're a Prop and the Hunter walks right past you, or the panic when a shot grazes your disguise. My favorite part is definitely playing as a Prop, because the mind games are real. You have to act like a normal object, sometimes even moving slightly to throw off the Hunter's aim, while hiding among dozens of identical objects. It captures the tension of games like Among Us but in a more active, shooter-light format. The maps are varied too, from suburban streets to dark warehouses, which keeps the gameplay fresh every time you install the app.
Compared to other mobile games in this genre, Hide & Seek: Prop Hunting Game feels more action-packed than something like Granny or even Identity V, which rely more on stealth and puzzles. Here, the shooting mechanics are front and center, which is a big draw for players who enjoy a bit of adrenaline. Similar games like Prop Hunt on PC (via Garry's Mod) have a dedicated following, but this android version captures that frantic energy in a simplified, touch-friendly way. It's not as deep as a full console game, but that's its charm. I recommend it over other mobile prop hunt apps because the matchmaking is fairly quick, and the graphics, while not cutting-edge, are smooth and colorful enough to keep you engaged during long commutes. If you're looking for a casual game to kill time or want to laugh with friends as you morph into a fire hydrant, this is a solid pick from the Google Play store.
features
- Prop Disguise System 🎭 – This is the heart of the game. Unlike in Among Us where you just blend in with tasks, here you literally become any object you see. You can swap disguises mid-round, which adds a layer of strategy. In similar mobile games like Hide Online, you're stuck with a single prop, but here you can bamboozle Hunters by switching from a potted plant to a mailbox in seconds.
- Hunter Arsenal 🔫 – The game has a decent variety of weapons for Hunters, from basic pistols to shotguns. This is something Garage: Bad Dream doesn't offer, as it's more about hiding. Shooting feels responsive on Android devices, with a simple tap-and-aim control scheme that doesn't require a high-end phone to run smoothly.
- Map Variety 🌆 – You're not stuck in one location. There are about 10 themed maps at launch, including a haunted house and a schoolyard. This beats Prop Hunt clones on Google Play that often have only 2 or 3 maps. The environmental design helps you stay immersed, even if you're just playing on your lunch break.
pros
- Quick Matchmaking ⏱️ – Solo players like me often struggle to find games in Hide Online, but Hide & Seek: Prop Hunting Game usually pairs you up in under 10 seconds. The community feels active, with plenty of newbies and seasoned players to keep rounds balanced.
- Free to Play with Fair Monetization 💸 – Unlike Identity V, which can feel pay-to-win with its character unlocks, here you can grind for cosmetics without spending a dime. The in-app purchases are mainly for skins and ad removal, not for game-breaking advantages. You can easily enjoy the whole experience without opening your wallet.
- Family-Friendly Fun 👨👩👧👦 – The game has a cartoonish style that doesn't rely on gore or heavy violence. It's a great pick-up-and-play option for kids or casual gamers, unlike Call of Duty: Mobile which is more intense. You can even invite friends via social media to form a private lobby on Google Play.
cons
- Repetitive Gameplay Loop 🔄 – After a few hours, the hiding and shooting can feel samey. Unlike Among Us, which has varied tasks and sabotage events, here each round is essentially the same: run, hide, shoot, repeat. There's no progression or story to break the monotony after you download the app.
- In-App Ads Overload 📺 – The free version interrupts play with video ads after every 2-3 rounds. In Garry's Mod's Prop Hunt on PC, there are no forced ads. This can make it hard to stay focused when you're trying to grind experience points on your Android device. You'll likely want to spend a few bucks to remove them.
- Control Clunkiness 🎮 – On smaller phone screens, aiming and shooting feels a bit floaty during intense chases. Hide Online has tighter touch controls, and this game sometimes registers false taps when you try to switch disguises. It's not game-breaking, but you'll miss shots you'd land on a console or Steam version.
