Tiles Survive! is a survival strategy game where you build and defend a base against zombies while managing resources and survivors. Developed by FunPlus International AG, it falls into the base-building survival genre that has become pretty crowded on mobile lately. The game is available on Android through Google Play and on iOS via the App Store, and as far as I can tell it is a mobile-only release with no PC or console version on Steam, Xbox, or Switch. It launched in 2024 and has already racked up a solid number of installs, sitting well past the million mark on Google Play alone. The download is free, which is the standard hook for this genre. There are in-app purchases for speedups, resource packs, and special bundles, and those range from a couple of dollars up to around twenty or thirty for the bigger packages. You can play without spending, but the game definitely nudges you toward the shop when you hit a wall.

You start with a small patch of land and a few survivors, then expand tile by tile. You gather wood, food, and metal, build shelters, upgrade your hero, and send squads out to clear zombie-infested areas. The loop is simple to pick up: assign workers, keep production running, and push your combat power higher so you can take on tougher zones. What I enjoy most is the pacing in the early and mid game. There is always something to tap, upgrade, or unlock, and watching your little settlement grow into a fortified camp is genuinely satisfying. The hero system keeps things interesting too, since different heroes change how your squads perform and give you a reason to experiment instead of just following one fixed path.

Compared to similar titles like State of Survival or Last War: Survival, Tiles Survive! feels lighter and less overwhelming at the start. Those games throw a mountain of systems and events at you right away, and honestly it can feel like a second job. Here the tile-based progression is cleaner, and I found it easier to understand what I should be doing next. It is not as deep as State of Survival when it comes to story or alliance politics, but if you want something you can open for fifteen minutes, make real progress, and close again, this one works well. I would recommend it to players who liked the idea of those bigger survival games but got burned out on the constant event chasing.

features

  • Tile-based base building 🧱 You expand your territory one tile at a time, which makes growth feel tangible and keeps early progress from getting overwhelming.
  • Hero-driven combat βš”οΈ You collect and level heroes who lead your squads, and swapping them around actually changes how fights play out compared to the fixed rosters in games like Last War.
  • Idle-friendly resource loop ⏳ Production keeps running while you are away, so you are not punished for closing the app, which is a big plus over some of the more grind-heavy competitors.

pros

  • Easy to learn πŸ‘ The first hour explains everything clearly without burying you in pop-ups, which is more than I can say for State of Survival.
  • Steady sense of progress πŸ“ˆ Every session gives you something to upgrade, so it rarely feels like wasted time even on short breaks.
  • Smooth performance on Android πŸ“± It ran fine on my mid-range phone with no major lag or crashing during the weeks I played.

cons

  • Late-game slowdown 🐒 Progress gets much slower once you hit the higher levels, and the wait timers start pushing you toward the shop.
  • Shallow alliance play 🀝 The social side is thin compared to Last War: Survival, where alliances feel central to everything.
  • Repetitive combat πŸ” Battles are mostly auto-resolved, so if you want hands-on tactical control you will find it lacking.
