Ultimate Sackboy is a mobile endless runner developed by Exient, and it is only available on Android and iOS. There is no PC or console version, so you cannot find it on Steam, Xbox, or Switch. It first launched in 2023 and you can download it from Google Play Store and App Store. The install count sits in the millions, which makes sense since it is free to download and play. There are in game purchases, mostly for coins, costumes, and power ups, and they range from about 1 dollar to 20 dollars. There are also optional ads you can watch for extra rewards.

You play by swiping left and right to dodge obstacles, jumping and sliding to keep running. The best part is how smooth the movement feels, and the game throws new hazards at you just often enough to stay interesting. My favorite part is collecting different Sackboy outfits, because they actually change how he looks on the track and give small perks. It feels great to unlock a new skin after a good run. The controls are simple enough for anyone to pick up, but later levels get tricky and demand fast reflexes. You can also compete on leaderboards, which adds a nice reason to replay stages.

Compared to Subway Surfers or Temple Run 2, Ultimate Sackboy feels more like a polished tribute to the LittleBigPlanet world. Subway Surfers has more maps and events, while Temple Run 2 has a darker tone. But if you grew up with Sackboy, this one hits differently. The music and visuals are charming, and it does not shove ads in your face every ten seconds. I recommend it over other endless runners if you want something cute and less stressful. It is not perfect, but it is a fun little time killer. You can install it for free and see for yourself.

features

  • Charming Sackboy style ๐Ÿ˜Š The whole game looks like a moving LittleBigPlanet level, with soft textures and playful colors.
  • Simple swipe controls ๐ŸŽฎ You only need one finger to jump, slide, and switch lanes, so it works great on a phone.
  • Costume unlocks ๐Ÿ‘• Unlike Subway Surfers, where skins are mostly cosmetic, here some outfits give small gameplay boosts.
  • Fair free to play ๐Ÿ’ฐ You can play for hours without paying, and the ads are never forced on you.

pros

  • Great for short sessions โฑ๏ธ A single run takes one or two minutes, so it fits perfectly between tasks.
  • Less ad spam than Subway Surfers ๐Ÿšซ You get optional ads for bonuses, not pop ups after every run.
  • Faithful to the original character ๐Ÿงถ It captures Sackboy's clumsy charm better than most mobile spin offs.

cons

  • Limited level variety ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ After a while, the stages repeat themes, and Temple Run 2 offers more distinct environments.
  • Grind for costumes ๐Ÿ˜“ Unlocking everything takes a long time unless you pay, which can feel slow.
  • No offline mode ๐Ÿ“ด You need a connection for some features, unlike many other endless runners.
