Forecast for UAV, made by Go Dreams, is a specialized weather app built specifically for drone pilots. Unlike generic weather apps, this one focuses on conditions that directly affect flight safety and performance, like wind speed at altitude, Kp index for GPS interference, and cloud ceiling. The first thing that strikes you after installing it from Google Play or the App Store is how clear and immediate the main dashboard is. It's not cluttered with city forecasts or hourly rain predictions for your local area. Instead, it highlights whether it's a flyable day right now, using a simple green-yellow-red indicator. For anyone who's ever driven out to a flying spot only to find gusts too strong to launch, this alone makes the download worth it.

Once you get into the app, the hands-on experience feels practical and straightforward. After a quick sign-up, you're shown a map where you can pin your takeoff location. The app then pulls in real-time data like ground wind, wind speed at 30, 60, and 90 meters, plus turbulence forecasts. What I found useful is the hourly breakdown, which shows exactly when the wind picks up or dies down. One tip: if you fly in a valley or near hills, the altitude toggle helps a lot because ground-level wind can be totally different from what your drone feels a hundred feet up. The interface isn't flashy, but it loads quickly and the numbers update without lag. The only slightly confusing part was finding the saved locations menu, but you get used to it after a couple uses.

After using Forecast for UAV for a few weeks, I think it works best for hobbyists and semi-pro pilots who fly regularly and want to avoid wasting a trip. It's less useful if you only fly occasionally or just plan around clear skies. What sets it apart from apps like UAV Forecast or Windy is how focused it stays on drone-specific metrics. You won't find surfing conditions or hiking trail forecasts here. The app also differs in that it includes historical data and flight logs, which let you look back at what conditions were like on a particular day. I could see keeping it installed if I flew weekly, but for casual fliers, the free version might be enough. Overall, it's a niche tool that does one thing well without trying to be everything.

features

  • 🪁 Drone-Specific Weather Metrics – Instead of general weather stats, Forecast for UAV shows wind speed at multiple altitudes, Kp index, and cloud ceiling. UAV Forecast offers similar data, but Go Dreams' app highlights flight-readiness with a simple color-coded system, making it faster to read before heading out.
  • 🪁 Altitude Wind Comparison – You can compare wind speed at heights like 30m, 60m, and 90m side by side. This is critical for mapping flights or long-distance missions. In contrast, Windy requires manual toggling between layers, which is slower in the field.
  • 🪁 Flight Log History – The app saves past flight conditions so you can review what worked or why a flight got canceled. Neither UAV Forecast nor DJI Fly offer this feature, which makes it useful for pilots who plan recurring routes.

pros

  • ⚡ Clean, Focused Dashboard – The main screen immediately tells you if it's safe to fly. No switching tabs or interpreting complicated graphs. UAV Forecast buries this info deeper, so Forecast for UAV saves a few taps.
  • ⚡ Custom Location Pins – You can mark specific takeoff spots on the map and get forecasts based on that exact location. Windy also allows pins, but Forecast for UAV links them to drone data rather than general weather.
  • ⚡ Kp Index Integration – The app includes solar activity data, which other drone apps like DJI Fly skip entirely. For pilots flying with GPS-dependent drones, this is a solid safety net.

cons

  • ⚠️ Limited Free Tier – The free version restricts how many saved locations and detailed forecasts you can access. Both UAV Forecast and Windy offer more generous free features, so users on a budget might feel boxed in.
  • ⚠️ No Radar or Precipitation View – You won't see rain radar or storm tracking here. For pilots who also check general weather, it means keeping a second app open, which reduces the convenience factor.
  • ⚠️ Less Polished UI – The interface works but feels a bit dated. Animations are basic, and some menus are tucked away. Competitors like Windy have a much slicker, more modern look that feels better to use daily.
